How Stavanger Indie Embodies the Drive for Excellence
At its core, Stavanger Indie Film Festival is built on the idea of striving for more—for filmmakers, for audiences, and for Stavanger itself.
Stavanger currently lacks a dedicated independent film festival, leaving a gap in its cultural landscape. We aim to fill that gap, creating an event that celebrates bold, original cinema and makes Stavanger a more vibrant hub for independent filmmaking.
Screenings of independent, international, and marginalized voices are underrepresented in the region. Our festival will provide a platform for these filmmakers to be seen and heard, offering exposure and recognition that is often difficult to obtain.
Stavanger’s filmmaking industry is highly fragmented, with many creatives working in isolated groups. By bringing filmmakers together in a supportive, collaborative environment, we hope to build bridges between crews, foster networking, and strengthen Stavanger’s film community.
Independent filmmaking requires ingenuity, courage, determination, and self-belief. Our festival is designed to nurture this mindset, helping filmmakers grow by showcasing their work, facilitating discussions, and inspiring them to push their craft further.
Norway has the potential to be a bigger player in the international indie film scene, and Stavanger Indie aims to contribute to that growth by attracting filmmakers and industry professionals from around the world.
Stavanger has a diverse international community with immense creative potential, yet much of it remains underutilized. Our festival will embrace and showcase this talent, strengthening the city's cultural identity and ensuring all voices are valued.
By engaging with UiS, frivilligsentralen, and other local organizations, we are committed to creating opportunities for students and aspiring filmmakers, giving them hands-on experience and fostering the next generation of storytellers.
